Reception (F2)

During the Summer term, Reception will be looking at a variety of traditional tales, including The Enormous Turnip and Little Red Riding Hood.  We will be learning these texts, immersing ourselves in pretending to be various characters or objects from these stories, and then making these stories our own by changing characters and objects in the stories.

We will be engaging in a range of activities to develop a deep understanding of these stories and to immerse ourselves into the characters, ranging from creating animals out of playdough to growing a plant from a seed. When your child brings home items that they have made in school, use this as a chance to talk to your child about what they have created and what they got up to during the day – a lovely conversation starter.

With the weather improving, we will hospefully be spending lots of time outdoors exploring our environment, so please ensure your child has a named, waterproof coat in school everyday.

In Maths this term we will be learning about money, exploring numbers to 50 and solving problems involving addition and subtraction, doubling and halving.

You can help your child at home by:

  • reading daily and writing in their reading record

  • encouraging your child to verbally tell stories, either known or made up stories

  • practising counting to 50 and recognising house numbers to 50

  • helping your child learn their number bonds to 2,3,5 and 10
