Reception (F2)

Reception (F2)

During the Summer term, Reception will be looking at a great variety of books, which include Penguin on Holiday, The Great Pet Sale, Little Red Riding Hood and other traditional tales. We will be learning these texts, immersing ourselves in pretending to be various characters or objects from these stories, and then making these stories our own by changing the characters / objects in the stories.

We will be engaging in a range of activities to develop a deep understanding of these stories and to immerse ourselves into the characters. One day we might be creating animals out of playdough and the next day turning ourselves into the Big Bad Wolf or planting seeds! The children will also be creating many artefacts to support their learning and may come home with a collection of things they have made. Use this chance to talk about what they have created and what they got up to during the day – a lovely conversation starter.

In Maths this term we will be learning about money, exploring numbers to 50 and solving problems involving addition and subtraction, doubling and halving.

You can help your child at home by:

  • reading daily and writing in their reading record
  • encouraging your child to verbally tell stories, either known or made up stories
  • practising counting to 50 and recognising house numbers to 50
  • helping your child learn their number bonds to 2,3,5 and 10

We love reading and will encourage your children to read daily. Please listen to your child read, discuss the book and fill in his/her reading record. We will also be using uploading your child’s learning to Tapestry, the online learning journal. Not only will you be able to see images and videos of your child’s learning at school but you can share images of what your child has been learning at home too. Please ask your child’s class teacher if you have any questions about using Tapestry.

As the weather is improving, we will be spending lots of time outdoors exploring our environment so please ensure your child has a named, waterproof coat in school everyday.

Many thanks for all of the support you give your child.  It is very important that we continue to work in partnership with you to ensure they make the most of their learning opportunities.
