In English this term, we will be learning how to write a character description and will be working with the book; Prince Rupert. We will also be learning the creation myth How the Tortoise got His Shell and will discuss the setting and the moral of the story. Lastly, we will look at an explanation text and write to inform the reader about how something works. It would be fantastic if you could encourage your child to read widely at home, both fiction and non-fiction. You can borrow two books at a time from the Active Learning Library to share with your child at home which would be very beneficial to their understanding of each topic throughout this term.

Maths this term will continue to secure your child’s knowledge of number and place value. We will also keep working on fractions, multiplication and division; using mental and written methods of calculation. Volume, length and capacity will be revisited as well as time, money, 2D and 3D shape. Children will also continue to secure the learning of their 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables, so please help to support their learning of these at home.

We love reading and will encourage your child to read daily.  Please listen to your child read, discuss the book and fill in his/her reading record, commenting on how your child has read any difficulties, improvements in reading etc.  Please ask your child’s class teacher if you have any questions about this or any other learning.

Please remember the children will be taking the Key Stage 1 Tests in May therefore practising reading, writing, spelling and maths at home is as important as ever.

Many thanks for all the support you give your child.  It is very important that we continue to work in partnership with you to ensure that they make the most of their learning opportunities.
