Spelling Appendix Year 5 and 6

In Year 6 this term, we are learning how to read and write a range of fiction, non-fiction and poetry, including suspense stories and discussion texts.  We’ll be reading Skyhawk by Gill Lewis.

In Mathematics, we’re focusing on decimals, ratio, statistics, measurements and percentages.  We welcome all the support you are able to give your child at home, but would like to ensure that you help your child by continuing the methods they are being taught in school.  If you would like to know the methods your child is being taught, please do not hesitate to come into school and ask.

In science, we will be learning about animals, including humans and forces.   Please encourage your child to read about these topics at the library or complete online research – remember that the children can borrow two books at a time from the Active Learning Library.

SATs will take place in May so we will be spending time practising test skills, sending home extra work and may invite your child to attend some extra tuition sessions either in the morning or after school.  It is vital that we continue to work in partnership to ensure that your child makes the most of their learning opportunities.  We will be holding a SATs meeting in March to provide you with information about the exams and to answer any questions you may have.  Until then, continue to support your child with their school work, ensure that they are in school on time and are ready to start the day.

If you have any concerns or worries during the school year, please arrange a time with the school office to meet with your child’s teacher or speak to them at the end of the school day.  As usual, the spring term will be full and enjoyable.
