Spelling Appendix Year 5 and 6

In Year 6 this term, we are learning how to read and write a range of fiction, non-fiction and poetry, including writing to persuade and developing characters.  We’ll be reading Cogheart by Peter Bunzl and Strange Star by Emma Carroll.

In Mathematics, we’re focusing on revising previously learnt topics to ensure that the children are well prepared for the SATs tests in May.  We welcome all the support you are able to give your child at home, but would like to ensure that you help your child by continuing the methods they are being taught in school.  If you would like to know the methods your child is being taught, please do not hesitate to come into school and ask.

In science, we will be learning about all animals including humans.   Please encourage your child to read about these topics at the library or complete online research – remember that the children can borrow two books at a time from the Active Learning Library.

SATs will take place on the week of 13th May so we will be spending time practising past test papers, sending home extra work and may invite your child to attend some extra tuition sessions either in the morning or after school.  It is vital that we continue to work in partnership to ensure that your child makes the most of their learning opportunities.  We would like to thank you for your continued support with your child with their school work, ensuring that they are in school on time and are ready to start the day.

During SATs week, we will be providing breakfast to all children and ask that they are in school at the slightly earlier time of 8.30 in order to be prepared for the day.  This can be a stressful time so it is important that we remind the children that they have worked extremely hard and are well prepared for the tests.

We have lots of exciting events to look forward to this term including an overnight stay at Bushcraft, Police Week, the Mayor’s assembly and the Year Six Production.

If you have any concerns or worries during the school year, please arrange a time with the school office to meet with your child’s teacher or speak to them at the end of the school day.  As usual, the summer term will be full and enjoyable.
